WSPR in the browser
CloudHamSuite receives WSPR in Chrome or Edge and can run a beacon. You connect your rig to the computer over USB, open the page and pick WSPR as the mode. There is no program to install, only the rig's USB driver if your operating system does not have it yet. The app is free.
Without an account you only receive. The beacon and reporting to WSPRnet take a free account.

What you need
- Chrome or Edge on a computer. Firefox, Safari and browsers on a phone or tablet do not control a rig.
- A rig with USB CAT and USB audio. Verified on the rig are the Icom IC-7300 and IC-9700. More models can be selected through Hamlib but have not been tried on real hardware yet. See the list of supported rigs.
- An accurate clock. WSPR works in fixed periods of 2 minutes, each starting on an even minute.
- Internet. The station is loaded from cloudhamsuite.de. It does not work offline.
- A licence to transmit. The app derives the class from a German callsign; with any other callsign you confirm your licence yourself.
Receiving
Decoding runs in the browser on your computer. You see the stations of the last period with callsign, locator, power and level. With an account your receptions go to WSPRnet. This cannot be switched off, and WSPRnet shows them publicly. Callsigns that arrive only as a hash are not reported. As a guest everything stays in this browser and nothing is reported.
The beacon
- Beacon only: WSPR has no QSOs. “Transmit beacon” starts it, “Stop beacon” or Esc ends it. “Transmit next slot” transmits once on purpose.
- Transmit share: 20 % of the periods by default, spread at random.
- Callsign and locator come from the rig profile.
- Power: You enter the reported power by hand. The beacon does not set it on the rig, so it has to match there. If it does not, the app warns you.
- Bands: The beacon transmits on the WSPR bands your licence allows. 70 cm and 23 cm are receive only.
- Duration: After 2 hours without any operation the beacon ends by itself.
The beacon has been tested on the air with an IC-7300 at 5 W: other stations heard and reported it. Once signed in, you see on the map who your beacon reaches.
Try without an account
As a guest only FT8 is open for transmitting. You can still pick WSPR and listen. The beacon stays locked until you sign up for free on the start page.
